Along with hearing your tour guide’s energetic commentary, guests of all ages enjoy looking at shared iPads with visuals of archives and photographs that bring the history of the World’s Fair to life. Guests on this walking tour divide into teams and play interactive, educational games, such as a visual scavenger hunt with historic clues. You’ll even get a chance to ride in a human-operated elevator, one of the last left in the city!
This educational, family-friendly walking tour visits some of the few remaining buildings from the 1890s. The fairgrounds themselves were south of downtown, where today very little remains intact from the fair. You can best see the impact of the 1893 World’s Fair right in downtown Chicago on this tour with us!
We regularly offer a 2.5-hour version of this 1893 World’s Fair Tour with Bars for adults. This family-friendly version of the tour is briefer and does not go into the bars. Instead, this family-friendly tour focuses on the educational games and architectural explorations to make the history accessible and exciting for guests of all ages.
This walking tour is designed to appeal to both kids and adults. We recommend bringing kids ages 6 and up. Tour groups are limited to 14. Last year’s tours all sold out, so we recommend booking now for this limited run tour, which we normally only guide for Student Group Field Trips.
