Chicago Detours is not just a team of tour guides – we are tour event planning professionals.

We love groups. Sign your group up for an unforgettable experience with a smart, creative, and engaging tour. We welcome private groups of 1 to 60 guests. Our passionate and highly knowledgeable guides will take you to famous Chicago spots as well as places locals don’t even know about.

Chicago Detour

Try our already curated excursions, complete with historic photos presented on iPads.

  • “Good Times on the Mag.” This an exploration of fun and entertainment throughout history, along the famous Magnificent Mile.
  • “The Loop.” The walking distance of this tour is shorter and you get protection from the elements (it’s 99% indoors).

Custom Tour

We compile our vast knowledge of Chicago to cater to your group’s interests.

  • A Neighborhood Tour. You choose a particular area of the city, and together we explore the art and architecture, history, and city life.
  • A Themed Tour. You choose a theme that interests you, like architecture, jazz and blues, or railroad history.

Getting Around

You choose your transportation: walk, a chartered coach, bicycle, or CTA bus or train. We can arrange shuttles to move your group to/from a hotel or convention center. Transportation options may be dependent on tour location and theme.

Bookings

Custom tours must be booked a minimum of four weeks in advance. Our Good Times on the Mag and Explore Without Freezing tours may be booked last-minute for private groups, but a two-week minimum is recommended.   • Discounts apply for groups of 10 or more.
  • A 15% gratuity is added to the total, and we pay this gratuity directly to the guide.
  • Custom tours require an extra fee - please call or email us!
  • Participants for tours should be able to walk and stand comfortably for 2 hours.
  • We offer special rates to school groups and non-profits.
  • No-shows or cancellations will not be refunded.
  • Groups must arrive a minimum of 15 minutes before tour start.
  • All reserved tours run rain or shine.
