What It’s About
On Monday, March 26, Chicago Detours will be hosting “Badass Women in Chicago History,” a storytelling event special for Women’s History Month. Lively presenters, which we will announce in mid-February, will tell us the stories of Chicago heroines we have never heard. Stories will be enhanced with some kind of media, such as a song, artifact, or visual presentation.
For this special Chicago Detours event, you won’t hear the names we already know, like Jane Addams, Jane Byrne, and Gwendolyn Brooks. Figures may be political leaders, business women, and community organizers, but also the everyday laborers, mothers, heroines, creators, scientists and other unsung figures of Chicago history!
Call for Presenters
Would you like to present? Tell us about your unsung heroine. We’d love for these stories of women of Chicago history to be enhanced with some kind of media, such as a song, an artifact, or visual presentation (projector will be available). We don’t want factual overviews–we want a story with a conflict and resolution. Presentations will be max 8 minutes.
By Feb. 16 (we extended deadline), please send email to [email protected] with subject line “Badass Submission.” Include your name, phone number, and any organization you might represent. Then in maximum 150 words, share any pertinent details of your background, why your chosen woman is awesome, what her struggle or conflict was, and explanation of your media.
We will choose presenters to curate a compelling program with a variety of historical figures and an interesting mix of media.
